Let’s Celebrate Food & Nutrition

Can you believe it? March is knocking at the front door and if you open it, there it is.  March is an exciting month.  For some it means new life is emerging and the sun doesn’t set as early in the evening. For me as a Dietitian, it means the month that nutrition and healthy eating are celebrated.  This year, we are focusing on a World of Flavors.  This month, I encourage you to explore cultural foods and traditions.  This is the month that you can reset your taste buds.  If you have never been out of the United States, this is the month you can travel the globe without leaving the comfort of your own home.

Celebrating flavors from different cultures around the world is a fantastic and tasty way of nourishing your body, mind, and experience. Don’t just make a recipe; experience it by learning about that culture and what food meant to them. I am a firm believer that knowledge is power when applied. One way we can fight cultural differences is by sharing and learning where people really come from.  This dispels the myths, stereotypes, and fables. There is a big world of taste out there, go and explore it for yourselves.

Finally, if you have never met with a Registered Dietitian, I encourage you to do so this month.  Yes, there is a big difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist, they are not one in the same.  A Registered Dietician has extensive education and experience with nutrition and how it can help with certain disease states and illnesses. A dietitian also helps combat malnutrition, which, by the way, cannot be determined by appearance alone.  This month is the month to pay attention to the Restoring Bodies nutrition posts on our social media, you could win some great prizes while celebrating this important month. Happy Nutrition Month from the Restoring Nutrition Team.
