It’s National Nutrition Month!

We are excited to see the month of March arrive. Did you know that March is known as National
Nutrition Month? That’s right, there is a month dedicated to nutrition, and as a dietitian, I am
ready to celebrate.

Nutrition is not one-size-fits-all, it is an individual plan that is designed with you in mind. We all
have different tastes, experiences, and cultures when it comes to eating and nourishing our
bodies. This month, we are going to go beyond the table and learn how to get the best bang for
our buck when it comes to nutrition. From visiting our local farmer’s markets to exploring how
to make family friendly meals through our affiliate meal planning partner—Ann Kent from Peas
and Hoppiness.

As a kick-off to National Nutritional Month, I want to give you a couple of tips that will help you
create your own personal roadmap to going “Beyond the Table” when it comes to nutrition as
you age.

1. Prioritize Nutrient-Dense Foods: As an older adult, your body’s nutritional needs may
change. Focus on consuming nutrient-dense foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to
support your health. Incorporate plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and
healthy fats into your diet.

2. Stay Hydrated: Dehydration can be a significant concern for older adults and may lead to
various health issues. Ensure you’re drinking an adequate amount of water throughout the day.
Keep a water bottle handy, if you need to set a timer on your phone to remind you to drink; do
that. Also, consume hydrating foods like cucumbers, apples, and soups.
