Never Judge a Book by Its Cover
The phrase ‘never judge a book by its cover’ is a common idiom that conveys the idea that one should
not form an opinion about something, or someone based solely on outward appearances. It suggests
that there is often more to a person or thing than meets the eye and encourages people to look beyond
surface-level impressions.
This expression is frequently used in the context of advising against making hasty judgments about
people based on their physical appearance or initial impressions. In a broader sense, the saying can also
apply to not making assumptions about the value or quality of something based solely on its external
appearance. It encourages open-mindedness, curiosity, and a willingness to explore and understand
beyond superficial observations.
Which brings me to the point of this blog. Recently, during a workshop we overheard a visitor make the
comment ‘Wow, this place is so clean.’ While we are glad that she was pleased with the studio, that
comment made us curious. Why was she surprised? The building where we are located will never win
any beauty contests. Students have heard us complaining about the lack of signage and lighting. And
don’t get me started on the parking lot. But all of these issues should not reflect on the quality of
instruction that we provide.
Our studio has some of the most educated instructors that any studio would be proud to have. We have
two yoga instructors who are registered with Yoga Alliance at the RYT-500 level. The other two yoga
instructors are registered at the RYT-200 level. Which means that they have had at least 500 (or 200)
hours of yoga, anatomy, and philosophy training. (Our yoga substitutes are just as well trained) Our
Functional Fitness coach is a US Army Master Fitness Trainer, a Certified Functional Strength Coach, and
a Certified Functional Aging Institute Specialist. That leaves our fearless leader and Lead dietician.
