Setting Good Habits in 2025
There’s something so motivating about the clean slate of a new year. It’s an opportunity to leave behind any disappointments and unmet goals, and embrace a fresh start. It’s a chance to set new intentions, dreams, and ambitions.
However, reaching those goals can be more challenging than expected, especially when it comes to our fitness. Sometimes one unexpected event is all it takes to derail our progress, leaving us feeling frustrated and discouraged.
In this post, we’ll share how to establish good habits to help you stay on track and achieve your fitness goals. Plus, we’re introducing a brand new fitness challenge at the studio to help you kick off the year strong.
Why We Set Goals in the First Place
Goal-setting comes from a desire for personal improvement. You envision a future version of yourself, thinking and living a certain way.
Your goals are the checkpoints that get you there. They give you direction and purpose, guiding you to the future self you want to become.
Why We Don’t Reach Our Goals
All too often on our journey to reaching our goals, life inevitably gets in the way.
- The day we decide to start eating healthier is also the day our spouse gets a promotion and wants to celebrate by eating out.
- The day we commit to running one mile a day is also the day we pull something in our back while picking up after the kids.
- The morning we decide to start our new early morning exercise routine is also the morning we sleep through our alarm.
Suddenly, the missed day turns into a week, which somehow snowballs into six months and yet another abandoned goal. Sound familiar? We’ve all been there!
It’s easy to become discouraged by the lack of progress and wonder if you’re capable of reaching the goals you set for yourself. But what if we told you the problem isn’t the goal itself but the habits behind the goals you set that can make or break your success?
It’s Not You; It’s Your Habits
Many times we have trouble reaching our goals not because they’re unattainable but because we neglect the tiny habits needed to reach them.
As James Clear writes in his article, “Why Is It So Hard to Stick to Good Habits?”:
“Too often, we let our motivations and desires drive us into a frenzy as we try to solve our entire problem at once instead of starting a small, new routine.”
This typically happens at the start of a new year, but it can also happen throughout the year. For example, your doctor recommends you lose a little weight to prevent you from injuring your back so easily. On the drive home, you decide you’re going to start a strict diet and exercise seven days a week to lose the weight as quickly as possible.
But a better approach would be to start small. Maybe try adding a small salad to one meal each day. Or commit to a five-minute walk after dinner once a week. Breaking your goals into tiny, sustainable habits like this makes it easier to stick with them.
Sweeping lifestyle changes may seem exciting initially, but they are much harder to maintain. Repeating small habits consistently sets you up for small wins that can motivate you to keep going.
Start Small: Join Our Fitness Challenge
At Restoring Bodies, we understand how tough it can be to establish the tiny habits you need to reach your fitness goals. It’s easy to become overwhelmed when you’re trying to add a new routine to your already busy life.
That’s why this year we’re kicking off 2025 with a brand-new fitness challenge: Reset with Restoring Bodies.
Whether your goal is to lose a little weight, improve your flexibility, or simply exercise more, this challenge is the perfect way to begin creating the small habits that lead to long-term success.
Here’s why this challenge works:
- Small commitment – the challenge is just six weeks long, from Monday, January 20th to Friday, February 28th. You’ll join us for forty-five minute classes two to three days a week, making it easy to fit it into your current routine without feeling overwhelmed.
- Progressive workouts – each class is designed to build upon the last so that workouts feel approachable and sustainable over the course of the six weeks. We will start at a beginner’s level and gradually increase the intensity, but you’ll progress at your own individual pace.
- Variety to keep you engaged – no one likes boring workouts! To keep classes fresh and exciting, there will be a blend of weights, cardio, circuit training, yoga, and more. You’ll experience a variety of exercises to see what works best for your body.
- Support and accountability – you’ll not only have the support of an experienced teacher, but also the encouragement of an accountability group to help you stay on track throughout your wellness journey.
